What happened to the name 'Smart Maintenance'?
The following letter was emailed to all Smart Maintenance customers on February 8th, 2008.
Greetings......
Smart Maintenance has enjoyed strong, controlled growth over the past five years - as a product and as an organization. About a year ago we got the unfortunate news that we could not trademark the name "Smart Maintenance". When we had our strategic meetings last year, we analyzed our product, our company, and our industry. We have long known that we have a great and loyal customer base, a powerful-yet-easy to use product, and a great helpdesk. All of these stand out. What we were missing is the ability to stand out from the pack of other products in the market place. So we decided to change our product name!
The new name is "Bigfoot". Go ahead and chuckle or crack a joke, but Bigfoot is a CMMS system where the name will stand out. Imagine looking down a list of products: Super-Maintenance, Maintenance Boss, Maintenance This, Maintenance That, Bigfoot CMMS.....Which one of these stands-out? We need our name to match our product and organization. So we were able to turn bad news (changing our name) into a good plan to help continue to grow our organization which will help us better serve our customers. You might remember people making fun of the names "Google", "Yahoo" and "Monster.com" and look where they are now!
There have been no changes to our company. We have not been sold/bought out/gone public or anything else that might make you "worry" about this product name change. We simply want to have our product name stand out as we believe our product itself does. In the next few weeks you will receive an upgrade notification. When you do the upgrade, your new version will say "Bigfoot". The screens will look nearly identical to the past, just with the new name. There will not be anything new about the software to learn (except new release features). Our website will be different - we hope you will like the new look! When you call us, we will refer to Bigfoot rather than Smart Maintenance. The staff is the same, management the same, and the company name are the same.
